Texas Sports Teams

In Texas, sports are everywhere. The state has three NBA teams, two NFL teams, two MLB teams, one NHL team, and an entire fleet of collegiate teams. Some of the most prominent Texas sports teams include the San Antonio Spurs, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Longhorns.

The San Antonio Spurs are one of the top three winningest teams in the NBA. The popular basketball team has a lineup that sports the powerful Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker. The team has won three NBA championships in the current decade, and all four of its championships in the last 10 years. The team’s fans are also noteworthy in their loyalty and appreciation of the team, which may be in part due to the team being the only major Texas sports team in the area.

The Dallas Cowboys are another incredibly popular Texas sports team, having a streak of 160 sold-out games starting in 1990. The Cowboys have won five Super Bowls, winning three of them within a period of four years. The amazing trio (nicknamed “The Triplets”) of quarterback Troy Aikman, wide receiver Michael Irvin, and running back Emmitt Smith under the coaching of Jimmy Johnson were largely responsible for the impressive wins of the 90s Cowboys team.

The Texas Longhorns are another one of the widely successful Texas sports teams. The Longhorns are currently the second winningest Division I-A college football team, and have won four national championships. While the team has experienced ups and downs, it has been hugely successful since the hiring of head coach Mack Brown in 1998, who led the team to a triumphant victory over formerly undefeated USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl with quarterback Vince Young.
