Texas Music Festivals
Texas is a state laden with culture and is entertained by music of numerous styles and genres. One reason to visit the state is the growing popularity of Texas music festivals each year.
One notable Texas music festival is the Austin City Limits Music Festival, which has featured hundreds of bands in the past. The festival is held in the fall, and brings together over a hundred bands to play live over the course of three days. Some of the genres of music played at this festival include rock, country, and hip-hop, and past acts included the Foo Fighters, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson. This festival also includes a battle of the bands-type competition.
Another popular music festival in Texas is the Kerrville Folk Festival: the “longest continually-running music festival in North America.” The music festival lasts 18 days, and has included such performers as Jimmy LaFave and Lyle Lovett. The style of the performers tends to lean towards country, folk, bluegrass, blues and jazz. The festival itself is mostly run by a group of volunteers.
A smaller Texas music festival that showcases cultural diversity in the state is the Austin Reggae Festival. The two-day festival usually has around twelve bands, and is put together to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank. For curious individuals, the festival also includes ethnic food.
These are just a few of Texas’s many music festivals. Other festivals held in the state include the Roundtop International Guitar Festival and the National Polka Festival.
