Texas Country Music

Texas country music is a subgenre of country music that exemplifies a simpler sound with blue collar themes and humor. Texas country music is often played with acoustic guitars, bass, percussion and various other string instruments. This genre of music obviously attempts to encourage a Texan’s lifestyle, and often features various cowboy undertones.

Texas country music began after the development of Outlaw country, which included such artists as Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. These artists were often members of the hippie movement. Many of the musical artists involved in the Outlaw country music were from Texas, and thus these artists eventually helped develop Texas country music in the late 20th century.

One popular Texas country artist is Pat Green. His songs like “I Like Texas” showcase the pride these musicians have in their state of birth. Green’s popularity was, in fact, at least partially due to his discovery by Willie Nelson.

Robert Earl Keen is another member of the Texas country music community. His songs feature a more diverse musical quality than many others, as well as some comedic elements. One song he popularized is “The Road Goes on Forever.” He even attended one of Texas’s most popular colleges & universities, Texas A&M.

Overall, Texas country music seems to be quite popular within the country music genre, and should enjoy increased popularity in the future.
