Texas Colleges and Universities

There are quite a large number of great Texas colleges & universities. Their well known state universities and highly regarded private schools offer programs for a variety of interests.

Baylor University is one of Texas’s colleges & universities that focuses highly on academics and theology. It is a private Baptist university in Waco, Texas, and features the world’s highest enrollment by Baptists. The university, which was established in 1845, includes a highly ranked business school, the Hankamer School of Business. Other areas of study include law, theology, and music.

The University of Texas at Austin has the highest enrollment of any university in Texas. The school’s sports programs are popular and often nationally ranked. The Texas Longhorns football team was ranked first in the nation after their defeat of USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl. The team also finished third in the nation at the end of the 2008 season. The University of Texas’s academics programs are also ranked internationally, and, according to the Times Higher Education Supplement, it was the 15th best school in the world in 2004.

In 1871, Texas A&M University was the first higher education public school to be founded in Texas. It is one of Texas’s most well known colleges & universities. Texas A&M has great schools for biomedicine and technology. Its sports teams and students are known as the Aggies, and the school is described as being in the region of Texas known as “Aggieland.” Of all the Texas colleges & universities, Texas A&M has some of the most interesting traditions, including the popularity of using the word “howdy” as a typical greeting, and the Aggie Bonfire, which was built before games against the University of Texas and could reach heights of 109 feet.
