Texas Military Bases


Texas has 6 active Air Force bases, 7 Army Bases, 3 Navy bases and one Coast Guard Station. The Lackland Air Force Training Center is located in San Antonio. The 37th Training Wing is the largest training wing in the United States Air Force, the wing graduates over 85,000 students annually. Wichita Falls is home of the Wichita Falls Municipal Airport that is shared with the military, utilizing the runways and taxiways with the Sheppard Air Force Base. Military training flights take place here. Laughlin Air Force Base near Del Rio is home to the 47th Field Maintenance Squadron, having at the base numerous spare engines available at any given time as needed, and as all bases it is a community in itself.

The Navy bases located in Texas include Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, Fort Worth Naval Air Station and the Joint Reserve Base at Ingleside just across the bay from Corpus Christi.

Brooks City Base is in San Antonio as is Goodfellow AFB and Lackland. Dyess Air Force Base near Abilene, Randolph at Universal City on the North edge of San Antonio and Sheppard Air Force Base at Wichita Falls. There are several Army bases also in Texas including Biggs Army Airfield at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Camp Bullis and Fort Sam Houston at San Antonio, home of combat medicine. There is the Corpus Christi Army Depot, Red River Army Depot S.W. of Texarkana, and last but not least Fort Hood at Killeen.

The largest active duty military base in the United States, there are 12 units stationed at Fort Hood, among those a very large Military Hospital serving military personnel as well as dependents. An average day sees 3,867 outpatients, 170 emergencies and 5000 prescriptions are filled. There are no Marine bases in Texas.
