The Capital of Texas


Austin is the capital of the state of Texas. This city was once called Waterloo, but was renamed after Stephen F. Austin, who is known as the father of Texas. It goes by many nicknames. "Live Music Capital of the World," "The ATX," and "City of the Violet Crown" are just three. It is located in Central Texas and the eastern edge of the American Southwest. Austin is the fourth-largest city in Texas and the 16th-largest in the United States of America.

The city of Austin is known for its music and music venues, but it is also known for its people. Austin ranks number two on the list of cities with the best people. They are judged for having good personalities and attributes. It has also been called the "Greenest City in America" by MSN and voted America's number one college town by the Travel Channel, because it is home to the University of Texas.

Austin also ranks at the top of places people are relocating. It is said to be a bargain hunters dream. It is a place where you pay the least amount of money to get what you need. In this time of economic crisis, people want to know there is a place in the country where you can save a dollar or two for real estate and most importantly, food. It is unknown at this point how this will affect the job market. The city is the 36th largest and second fastest growing metropolitan area in the nation.
