Ever since 1970, ZZ Top has been a staple in the American rock/blues scene. Consisting of a triple threat membership of Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, these Texas born musicians personify longevity as well as popularity. Some personnel changes occurred early on, but since the culmination of these three, the music has dominated the charts. Billy Gibbons is a boneafide blues guitar savant, while Dusty and Frank are the perfect combo backup. It was said once that only a band as cool as ZZ Top could have the only guy without a beard named Beard.
Early success was slow, but in Texas their popularity was undeniable. In 1979, the album "Deguello" produced such hit's as "Dust My Broom," written by Elmore James. Eliminator became the best selling ZZ Top album ever. This album was a successful union of technology and simplicity. Gibbons, born in Houston, 1949 was named by Jimmy Hendrix, in 1967 as his "favorite guitar player" on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. The early works are what are still played in live shows to this day. Classic rock stations all over the country would be at a loss without ZZ Top. The band has endured the test of time with no major personnel changes. Unlike other bands from the era, ZZ Top has remained true to the music and avoided the exceptional controversy of other rock bands.
Without ZZ Top, the world would be a less fun place. With all the members born in the same year in the same state and still together, they have proven that Texas is a good place for rock and roll. While other bands try to make "comebacks" ZZ Top has never had to. They have endured the test of time and they still bring the house down when they play.
