On the Brazos River, during a Spanish exposition in 1691, the town of San Antonio was born. The town was amed after a Portuguese saint, Anthony of Padua, whose feast day it was when the Spanish exposition stopped in the old town area. This is still one of the most beautiful places in the world. With the river meandering through the town, it is truly amazing. The river, with its low, sloping banks, makes a perfect place for the sidewalk shops and cafes. The tropical type plants that grace the river banks make it a spectacular sight to see and stroll through.
From the first missions built by the Spanish until today with its modern amenities, San Antonio is still one of the most popular and famous places on earth. The Alamo, where Davy Crockett and all the other soldiers and civilians died defending the Alamo for Texas, to the Hemis Fair in 1968, this Texas city is still one of country’s greatest tourist attractions. The River Walk, with all the shops and hotels, also offers boat rides that travel along the river and canals beside the walk, there is always something new that you missed the first time. It makes you want to spend days just strolling along the walk and trying all the different foods and visiting all the shops that feature foods and crafts from all over the world.
There is just too much to put in this small space. The San Antonio River Walk is really a site worth seeing. If you can’t go in person, there are web sites that are really a treat. It is a part of history that is worth preserving and visiting.
