Six Flags Astroworld

Astroworld was a Six Flags Theme Park that operated from 1968 until its eventual closure in 2005. They were open for 37 years and had many different thrills, rides, and attractions over the years. One very popular ride that was housed at Astroworld from 1998 to 2003 was the Texas Tornado. This coaster was a steel looper was 112 feet tall and had a max drop of 90 feet at a max speed of 62 miles per hour. This coaster was eventually moved to Six Flags Marine World (Zonga) in 2003.

Another popular ride was the Texas Cyclone, a wood twister that was one of the oldest of its kind. It operated from 1976 until it was torn down in 2006. The coaster was 93 feet tall and had a max drop of 80 feet. This particular was modeled after the Coney Island Cyclone. Because the park closed in 2005, it is not easy to find a lot of information about it. There was a "Save Astroworld" grassroots campaign at some point, but Six Flags Corporation choose to close the park in 2005 anyway.

When Astroworld closed, many of the coasters and rides were relocated to other parks around the country. The coasters and rides that were relocated were also for the most part renamed. If you would like to know more about Six Flags and their rides and attractions you can visit their webpage and get information about any of their theme parks throughout the nation. Though Astroworld is now closed, Six Flags has other locations that you can visit for fun and excitement.
