Who is T. Boone Pickens?

T. Boone Pickens is a billionaire Texas oil man with a special dream. T. Boone Pickens was considered a child of the Depression, and thus had to learn lessons on how to be frugal with money and food. However, his father taught him about risk-taking, and that is how he got as far as he did. He learned to be a successful entrepreneur as time went on. He attended Texas A&M, and transferred to Oklahoma A&M, where he earned a degree in geology.

After he got into oil after working with Phillips Petroleum for three years, he started out with $2,500 of borrowed money, and he formed Altair Oil & Gas Company. The company quickly became successful. After he worked for the National Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition, he began to travel the country advocating the advantages of natural gas.

The Washington Post reports that at a luncheon, Pickens let people know how he lost $2 billion dollars last year, and investors fled his hedge fund. His wife rescues wild horses from slaughter, and is even asking for the government's help in this endeavor. Pickens has lead quite a full and adventurous life with great success. However, even though he has gone through many trials and tribulations, he says, "I firmly believe one of the reasons I was put on this Earth was to make money and be generous with it,” Pickens says. “And that’s what I’ve continually tried to do.”
