Texas has a pretty robust state university system. The state supports sixteen different colleges or universities. These major universities have locations at multiple sites. Of the most notable are The University of Texas system and the Texas A & M system. Howard and Angelo are some specialty universities in the Texas University system.
The Texas University system is extremely important to the residents of the state. The public Texas universities educate more than one hundred thousand students in undergraduate and graduate study. The university system educates about the same. Providing employment, education and culture to the community are three goals of the schools. Additionally, there are multiple medical schools within the system which provide medical care, including emergency room and trauma. These facilities also provide employment for health care jobs. The University of Texas school system has a medical school. Angelo State offers nursing training. All of the universities also offer seminars and workshops to the general public. For instance, the University of Texas offers first aid, CPR and other similar type workshops. In terms of adding to the culture there is a great variety of shows, concerts, plays, musicals and ensembles offered to the general public. Midwestern State and Texas Women's both have fine arts programs which contribute to their community. Texas State University has a pharmaceutical program and they contribute to the community with low cost prescription plans.
All of the Texas Universities provide immeasurably toward their community with employment, community assistance, education, medical assistance and cultural events. They are partners with the community.
